The Community Food Bank is a charitable organization that distributes food to the needy, homeless, etc throughout the year. Once a year they have a fund raiser called "The Empty Bowl". Artists have been contributing pieces to be auctioned off and most of them have been by ceramic artists. This year they have also asked the Northeastern Oklahoma Woodturners Association to contribute pieces for the auction. This is a real opportunity for the club to get local recognition and I'm sure we can get a story in the AAW magazine. I would hope that every member would submit at least one piece. They should generally be open bowls, any shape, any size, any kind of wood, plain or could be carved or decorated, in other words anything you want to do is fine. Make something you think someone might buy at an auction. The deadline is September 25. That will come faster than you think, so get started now! The pieces will be juried down to 25 however we are looking at the possibility of a show of all the pieces before the auction. They give individual recognition and invite each accepted artist to a really nice dinner in conjunction with the auction.
